Parkdale School
teaches students in Grades K to 9, and is
one of the seven schools in the EPSB City Centre Education Partnership.
Parkdale runs on a modified school schedule: three weeks of classes in
August, a two week recess in October, two weeks recess at Christmas, a two week recess
in the spring and five weeks off for
summer break in July; which gives our students 200 days of classes.
Spreading the breaks out helps our students stay focused during classes
and retain more after breaks.
Some of the
educational programs and
instructional methods currently used at Parkdale
School are: Literacy and Opportunity Classrooms in Divisions II & III,
Differentiated Instruction, Accelerated Reader, Guided Reading, Reciprocal Teaching, Balanced
Literacy, 6 Trait Writing, Literacy Map, Big Brothers and Big Sisters Mentoring, Letters
for Literacy, Reading Recovery, ORT Computer Training, Homework Help,
daily morning snacks donated by Tom Goodchild's Sawmill Restaurant
and E4C, and daily hot lunches
donated by the Edmonton School Lunch Program for all students K
through Grade 9.
Complementary courses
for students in Grades 7, 8 and 9 include:
Industrial Arts, Food Studies, Outdoor Education, Band, Visual
Arts, Media Studies, French, Exploring Technology, Reading and Extra
Math. The Grade 7 students may also choose to take the Computer
Studies course. |
